The Hotel Next Door

I've always carried a bit of a grudge against the hotel next door due to them parking in the public parking lot, but this afternoon, I think I might just drop it, or at least scale it back.

I decided to go over and see what it's like. It's fantastic. Their pool overlooks the bay and they have this really cool zen garden thing as well. I'm not sure if I have to pay to go in, but I know how my sunday afternoons are going to be spent from now on!

Parking Pandemonium!

It's absolute mayhem in the parking lot!

Recently they've been alowing us to park on the remains of our old parking lot while they're busy with other things, but they've now closed it off becuase they're repaving it. Which isn't too bad really as they've now finished the other side, so we could park there.

Or so we thought!

I drove home today to find that they've closed the road, right in the middle, and it's so small, you can't make a u-turn. So they directed everyone into the hotel's maze-like driveway, but only for us to discover, the exit's been blocked! We we're trapped like rats. So I switched my engine off and preteneded as if I was parked. Then, when there was a lull of cars coming in (still, with nowhere to go) I started 'er up and zoomed our, narrowly passingan arriving motorist awaiting a much worse fate than I recieved. I get back to my side to see that it's now sort of opened. I say opened, but it was more like cars parked randomly in every possible angle. I passed some Sweedish tourist who parked their mustang in a giant pothole with it's arse sticking up in the air. Luckily I'm a local, so I parked in one of the neighbors driveways. But who knows what'll happen tomorrow? Anarachy, pure anarchy.

Phantom Tollbooth

Since I take the Dolphin expressway home every night, I have to pass through a tollbooth. All the lanes are nearly always backed up, except for the one on the far right, which is nearly always empty, so naturally, thats the one I go in. Now in this tollbooth is a lady who has been working there clearly longer than I've been going through this tollbooth, but despite seeing me five times a week for the past six months, I don't think she's ever smiled at me. Maybe once.

Despite this, I continue to smile and say hello, hoping that one day she will turn around and say hello back. Or give me a free toll. Either or.

The Search Begins Again

So I've applied for another job a few blocks away from where I live. I have to admit I feel kinda bad looking for a new job, as judging by the way my current employers are grooming me to fit a very specific need in their company, it may break their heart if I leave. But the fact is the job is too far away, and I'd like to work with more people. Sorry.

At least this time when I look for a job, I've already got one, so if things don't work out, it won't be so hard. It also allows me to inject a bit more of my persoanlity into my cover letters. Let's all see how that works out...

Surviving New Years

New Year's Eve in London was a blast! We were just behind the London Eye outside Waterloo. When we first got there, there was already tons of people, but more just kept on showing up, despite the fact that there was no real crowd control, or toilets. The fireworks show was fantastic and we could see it all up close and personal, but the real story begins afterwards. Becuase we were right next to Waterloo, everyone was trying to get in, but it was packed solid, like sardies, shoulder to shoulder, so if anyone pushed, the whole crowd swayed. (I'm looking at you butt-head whitht he mobile phone who pushed everyone out of your way coz you thought you were some sort of vip or something) Fights nearly broke out when Lewis kicked someone who punch him, and I kept shouting "Oi!" and finally some random bloke got angry at me becuase his family pushed us. Tensions were running high.

Still, made it out OK, and I really enjoyed my return home. Frankly, I didn't really look for a job, but I can do that over the internet these days anyway.

Yesterday, back to work and back to reality, with a vengence! My car wouldn't start, I got lost twice trying to find the new office, the only restraunt in the building has no food, and there was a massive traffic jam on my already hour and a half commute. Bah! I'm going to the beach!
