Further Down the Apocalypse

While driving home from Mum's yesterday, we noticed that the traffic lights weren't working. Then we could hear lots of house alarms all over town. I figured the power might have gone out, and when we got home, we confirmed this was correct. With everything else going on this year, it's hard not to think the power going out might be the next step in the apocalypse! Even the mobile phone signals were weak.

Dad is still in the hospital, and back in intensive care, but we've been told he might be home sooner than later. But we've heard that before.

Strange Days

We met with doctors at the hospital this past Wednesday, and hopefully Dad will be home next week.

Meanwhile, I'm still adjusting to life permanently at home. Jen is down for the time being, but she's possibly being recalled to the office next month.

Then my car was supposed to be serviced last weekend, but they didn't plan ahead properly. So even though I booked the appointment three months in advance, I will now have to have it done at a later date. Next year, I am thinking about maybe getting an electric car, provided I can charge it at home.

A Major Shift

Dad's still in hospital, and we don't know when he's coming home.

After seven years of contracting in London, I've had to give it up and return to a permanent position, but working from home, which will cut my income in half. This is due to a combination of the pandemic and the government trying to get rid of us.

But the heat wave's finally over. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Melting Europe.

Dad is still in hospital. He keeps getting told different things all the time, as to when he is coming home.

Meanwhile, the country is melting. It's well over 85°F/30°C every day. Since no homes and very few business have air conditioning, it's like walking around in an oven all the time. Everyone keeps on about how they wish it was hot, but when it arrives, no one is prepared. This is now happening far more often, no doubt as a result of global warming, so we should be doing more to prepare. Like installing American style air conditioning everywhere.

An Update On Dad

I've been holding off on posting this, but I realised I should give an update.

For some time now, Dad has been suffering from the effects of motor neurone disease. The symptoms have been emerging slowly over the past two years, but over the last eight weeks or so, his condition deteriorated rapidly, culminating in a chest infection which required him to be taken to hospital in an ambulance last Sunday.

At this point, we don't know how much longer he is going to be in hospital. He was due to come home yesterday, but complications have required a longer stay.
