Perfect Timing!

Yesterday I bought a portable battery jump starter. I saw a video about how it can come in handy if you have an electric car. I don't yet, but I thought it might be the kind of thing I wish I had when the time comes to need it.

And the time came today. I was actually thinking this afternoon that it might have been a waste of money, but lo and behold it wasn't. The Range Rover had a completely flat battery, and it managed to jump start it. So that was a massive relief, and I now know that I'm prepared in future should anything like that happen again.

Better Ranking

It turns out that my "cheating" in the open isn't really cheating at all, and is actually encouraged. I wound up doing far more than I thought possible, and my worldwide ranking went from 154,000 last year to 139,000 this year. Or from the 2nd percentile to the 17th, based on how many people take part. Which isn't great, but certainly an improvement for sure.

Cheating The Open

It's time again for the CrossFit Open, where every single person (or most) who goes to a CrossFit gym competes around the world. Last year, there was something like 157,000 people.

After you finish the workout, you are ranked based on either how fast you finished it, or how many reps you completed. But since not everyone can do all of the movements and weights, there are scaled down options that are easier. This is what I always do. Until this past Friday.

I read online that somehow if you do even one single rep of the top workout, you automatically outrank everyone in the next scale down. So that's what I did. Rather than do it properly, I spent 20 minutes trying to do a "double under": which is jumping rope twice in one jump. I managed 13 in the end. But I do feel like I cheated, and followed the letter of the law, rather than the spirit of the competition.
