The Super League

If you live in Europe, or follow any European football, you've probably heard about the proposed "Super League", which fell apart after just 48 hours due to backlash from fans, players, the Premier League, the FA, UEFA, FIFA, and the prime minister. A shining example of how out-of-touch the owners are with the common fan, and a reality check that they don't wield the power they think. I don't think I've ever seen the entire country this united before. Ever. It's quite a sight to see.

Meanwhile here where I live, we had our own little "power move" this morning. We were awoken early by the sound of more trees or hedges getting cut down, only to find it's our own hedge! I spoke to the lady who is informally in charge of the gardens, and said another neighbour had complained to her this morning about it being cut as well. She apologised for not telling us, but that the hedge was mostly bramble, and will be replaced by shrubs. Still, would be nice to at least have the illusion that I have some sort of control of my surroundings. I'd love to move somewhere with no neighbours whatsoever, but I lack the million pounds needed to do it around here. Hell, even just normal detached houses start around £600,000. Overpopulation, eh? No end in sight.

Working Out

Due to not doing any exercise at all over the last year, and not changing my diet to reflect that, I've developed a bit of a belly. It's also probably because I'm 37 years old, have always had a bad diet, and haven't really exercised properly in years.

When I was still in college, i.e. a few days before I started this blog, I used to do 200 push-ups and sit-ups a day. In addition to weight training, so I was in fantastic shape. Then back in middle and high school, I was on the swimming team, not to mention my black belt in Taekwondo. But other than about six months of going to the gym after work eight years ago, I haven't really done any exercise other than walking in the last 16 years. To remedy my new belly situation, I jumped in the deep end yesterday, and went to a CrossFit taster course to see if I could physically handle it before I signed up.

I can't walk today.

Liberty Begins to Return

As of last week, we are allowed to meet up with up to six people outside. It's a start, I suppose. I went to a BBQ in Bournemouth on Saturday, so at least I got out of the neighbourhood for a while.

Speaking of the neighbourhood: next door is selling their apartment. Which is rather strange, as they spent about two years, and gosh knows how much money, renovating it. Before they purchased the apartment, it looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70s, which gave it a bit of charm in my opinion. However, after all the effort and fights they went through, we weren't that impressed with what we saw in the listing. The bathrooms look about ten years out of date, and there's many things they haven't touched at all, like the Artex ceiling. To each their own I suppose. The asking price is £100,000 more than I paid for mine over five years ago. So if they get what they want for it, I could probably get more for mine, as it was renovated to a higher spec.
