Wheels In Motion

I now have a bank account! Score! I just dumped all my money (which was of course cut in half due to the exchange rate) and I do feel a lot more relaxed. I went and told the pub, so hopefully by the end of the week, I'll be earning moolah. But I said that last week and the week before.

As far as 'real' jobs go... the lady who was buddies with the head of Sony London (who is now my first choice to work for as they are located right in the middle of London) told me to contact her on wednesday. She said "Not many jobs out there." is kind of a cryptic voice. I do hope it's not a bad sign. I'm also going to call that company from the job fair today and see how far down the line my application is.

In other news, Lewis and I saw Batman Begins at the Imax on sunday and it kicked our asses! Man that was awesome! I got to London a little early (even though the tube line I take into London was broken) so I went to the Megastore to listen to more of my old pal Jake the Rapper. Speaking of music, I just learned Greyscale, my friends from Panera's band, has an LP coming out and it's going to be sold on Amazon. So keep a look out.

You are here

I just saw a sticker that said "You are here". Not part of a map or a sign, just there. Sort of like those 'Big In Georgia' stickers all over UCF.

I've had an action packed week. I went to London on Wednesday, and... yeah thats about it. I turned in something else to the recruiters in London and realized that I really want that job in Soho ro wherever it is becuase London is such a cool city.

It's been hot over here this week. Genuinely. This is 14 years of Florida talking. It hasn't been so bad with the humidity, but Britain is illequiuped to handle heat. But I must say people are taking it a bit too far. As I was getting on the tube, an announcment came on saying "Always carry a bottle of water with you and don't get on the train if you feel faint". It's nice to know they care, but the pollution caused by the heat is worse than the heat itself.

When I was in the Virgin Megastore I saw a CD that I'm going to go back and get once (if) I get a job. It's called 'Jake the Rapper', by Jake. Jake is a big burley German guy who writes raps and gives them to other blokes to rap. He also brings in these really good DJs. So it's sort of half dance, half really good rap. He's more of a producer really, but the low quality CD case is what initally sold me. I was going to check out his website, but seeing as how I'm in an internet cafe, it might be a joke and take me to a dodgey website, so I don't ancy chancing it and getting chucked out of my only internet access place.

I watched these videos Lewis lent me of these British comedians and one of them said somehting that was a bit offensive to some, but very true to others. he asked if anyone in the audience was from overseas and this chap said he was from America. "Love Americans" he said. "You've got that American dream and all that. Yeah, we don't have a dream over here. Nope, no British dream. And do you know why that is? Do you know why we don't dream?

It's becuase we're awake."

Fitting In

The guy at the fish & chips shop down the end of the high street already recognizes me when I come in, so does the guy that runs the internet cafe. Speaking of recognizing, I sent off emails about those job postings the other day remember?

Well the one in London, who I personally went to see, have asked me for my demo reel and details. Thats sounds cool untill you take into consideration the fact that they not only already have them, but I WENT IN PERSONALLY to give hand them in. Not having a broadband connection (or any intenet connection for that matter) at the house means I have to walk into town and pay £1 every frickin time I want to use the internet. So now I have to go back home, burn my demo reel on a CD (again) and come back and spend another pound just to mail the bloody thing off. This had better be a sign that I'm gonna get a job or something, coz if this is another wild goose chase...

Slow Start

It was my birthday thursday, and instead of going to see Batman (it was sold out), we went to see 'Mr & Mrs Smith' which frickin rocked! I ate Pizza Hut for dinner as well. I didn't really go out drinking as I have to watch my pennies at the moment.

The pub says it's holding the job for me, and Paul just sent me an email saying the bank has sent me a letter. Knwing my luck, it's one that says "Sorry, no dice" or "We need other forms" or "We're retarded and don't like to give British people bank accounts".

I'm going to check with the recruiters today and update my phone number and address for the other two and hopefully there will be some jobs avalible.

Back in Sway... Again

Back here in Sway, just to get this bank account situation sorted, then I can go to work and buy luxuries like food.

The other bloke that lives where I'm staying had his mum come over the other day, and apparently she was asking way too many questions about me. Like "Who is he? Does he pay rent? Does he have a job?" I would have loved to have told her to bugger off, but seeing as how I don't have a job and I'm not paying rent, I was really nice to her. Don't know if it worked though.

Going to see 'Batman Begins'at the imax on thursday and Dad's coming on friday. Nee neer nee neer nee neer!

First proper night out

I went out for my first proper night out in London last night. We went to this pub, and then to the club/bar where Lewis works. The view is pretty frickin cool. You can see all the famous landmarks and stuff. Hell, when you come out of his dorm, you can see the London Eye.

I'm going back to Sway next week to get this bank account problem sorted out once and for all (hopefully). Once that's taken care of, I can start earning money, rather than just spending it.

Roller Coaster

What a day yesterday.

My flatmates both got into the university they want to, which kicks ass, but I found out it's going to be a massive hassle to get my insurance number. I then got the job at the pub, but they can't hire me unless I get a bank account, which in my current situation, is impossible. But then my awesome flatmates went to a recruiter that can help me out as it deals alot with immigrants, which it what I am. In my own bloody country.

Further Adventures

I found the recruiters, and they seemed cool, and now they know who I am, so hopefully, it's help me out. Oh yeah, when I was looking for Lewis' pub I ran into

ED!

That's like a 1 in a bajillion odds, but it was so cool! We went to Lewis' pub and we were talking about how different it is over here and how much it's taylor made for me over here.

Except for this bank account insurance number problem, which pisses me off to no end, but I hope to get it square away soon. Applying for jobs now, so I hope I at least get an interview this time around.

Adventures in London

I'm in London now, in a moderatly priced internet cafe, trying to find these job recruiters. Turns out I was looking for the wrong address, and now I have to find my way back to where I was.

But the cars around here, WOW. Bentleys and Ferraris all over the place. Which is nice, but it doesnt help me in my situation now does it. I wanted to swing by television centre and Radio 1, but it's all security there, so i think if I want a job in one of those places, I have to go through an agency. I wanted to maybe go through my buddies, but he was in IT, which is a different field.

It's all an adventure though. An adventure that wears out your legs. And your pocketbook. Since I have to have a minimum of 1 hour here, I might as well elaborate, Tim Rogers style!

I realize I look really, really gay in that picture down there, but I look even gayer in the other one, so that's really the best you're going to get for a while. I get this sinking feeling I didn't get that job in the pub, and I'm not sure how much longer I can last. It's like something out of a book from long ago, except in the book you knew it was all going to work itself out in the end. I don't have that guarantee. It would have been easier if I had stayed in Orlando, but life isn't exciting if it's easy! Mwahahaha!

Shhh

Shhh, be quiet. Carly snuck me into her college to use the internet for free!

Reality Beckons

It's my last day of my mini-vacation today. I have to go back up to London and start pressing the agencies for jobs starting tomorrow. I saw the best program in Britain yesterday, it's called 'Ministry of Mayhem'.

For those of you who don't know (read: everybody), saturday morning children's tv is an institution over here (For more info check out http://www.satkids.co.uk/). When I was younger, of course, they were way better. Philip Schofield (our leader) and Sarah Greene headed up 'Going Live' the champion and greatest of these shows. However, after Going Live, it's sort of spiraled slowly downhill. Now, I have found the true heir to Going Live's throne. The male presenter (minus his way-too-gay pink shirt) even looks and sounds like a much younger Schofield. Good saturday morning shows appeal to older viewers just as much as younger ones becuase it's all spontaneous and the hosts always interact with the crew behind the camera just as much as the kids in the audience, telling jokes and things. It's fantastic and as British as afternoon tea.

Nevertheless, Ministry of Mayhem makes me want to get a job in children's tv, so I might swing around to Television Centre and ask for a job doing anything.

Btw, this is also the end of my broadband use, so it's back to overpriced cybercafes for me.

I'm back in Sway, where I used to live. I'm literally down the road from my old house. I could walk there in about two minutes. But I don't think I will. I don't want to find it's changed.

This is the first time I've got broadband since I arrived so I'm on AIM at the moment. Mwahaha! I'm completely exhausted from walking everywhere with this bigass bag, but it's cool seeing everyone, as I have to be back next week to go into London and go to job fairs. It's all go over here.

Ed's here in Britain, but I have no way in the world to contact him, so I fear our going to see 'Mr & Mrs. Smith' at the Oden may be out the window. Bugger. I would put down my mobile number, but I don't want any old weirdo who stumbles across this to call me. So there.

BTW, here's proof I'm really here.

Invisible Man

I officially don't exist!

I went down the Soocial Security place and I was informed that I don't exist in their computers. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. But it does make life a little more difficult when it comes to jobs. i just got rejected by Rockstar Vienna, and Sony London, so it's not looking good so far.

I'm in another overpriced internet cafe, this time in a mall in Southampton. Above me there is one of the few remaining SegaParks in the world, so I must have a look at that. Games over here seem to be about £30-£40. Which is way more than America, but less that I thought. Having such sporadic internet access, I can't keep up with all the videogames news like I used to. I fear I might loose touch, but then I remember the days before the internet when I got all my videogame news from magazines. i guess i really am returning to my roots.

I saw a mkII Focus just now, and the other day I saw an e39 M5. Sweet! Everyone over here seems to drive Mercedes SLs, but I just found out they're SL350s! Ha! The kids down here don#t seem to be as badly behaved as they are in Lodon. Down south keepin' it real!

Look out Southampton!

I'm at Mike's tonight. Some of you might remember Mike came over for my graduation, and I'm crashing here tonight as part of my 'see everyone in a week' week. He paid for my chinese dinner, which was cool.

The rest of the day went wrong and completely behind schedule. Still, first day with proper British weather.

Went to the dog race track last night and actually came out on ahead. Score and there was a 5% working there too! Double score!
