Lloyds Of London

I've started a new contract for Lloyds of London, which is a big insurance market in the City that's over 300 years old. They were the underwriters for the Titanic, and were good friends with Lord Nelson. They have lots of really fascinating memorabilia in their "interesting" headquarters.

But if there's one thing they have taught me, is that I have been spoiled rotten being in my industry. Since I started my career ten years ago this month, I have worked for marketing companies, web development agencies, publishers, and places like that. It seems I have taken for granted that everyone is laid back with the dress code, hours of working, and general office atmosphere. Because this place is boring. No one laughs, very few smile, and it's populated almost exclusively with depressed looking middle aged men in suits. I feel like a member of the aristocracy who just had their first visit to a shanty town. I just kept thinking "how can they live like this?"

Be Careful

According to this crazy lady from Ghostbusters II, the world is supposed to end today.

Bummer.

Spotted!

Ever since I moved back to Lymington, I've been hearing an ice cream van playing "It's Now or Never" by Elvis. Every so often, I can hear it in the distance. At the old flat, at the new flat, and at Mum & Dad's house. Not too long ago, someone told me that it's actually a fish & chip van, and the chap had bought an old ice cream van, which is why it has the jingle. Despite all this, I'd never seen it with my own eyes and thought I was beginning to imagine it.

Until yesterday, when I was talking home and finally saw it. Which means I'm not crazy. Well, not much anyway.
