Ten Years

On the 29th of May, 2005 I started this blog from a small internet cafe in Watford. I had just graduated university, I had no job, and I was sleeping on someone's couch.

Ten years later, I'm posting from a device that back then would have been considered science fiction, from my apartment in Chelsea, while I've just purchased my first property down in Lymington. I've come a long, long way.

There have been bumps in the road. Heck, there are bumps now. But every now and then it's good to sit back and take stock in what has been accomplished. Where will I be in ten years? While my leap in fortunes may not be as great as the last ten years, it will be interesting to see what the future holds. Maybe I'll be working on the moon...

Homeowner

We finally closed the deal yesterday, and today I've begun moving in.

I'm not out of the woods yet, as I still need to wait for the internet man to come out and switch on the telephone line, and I need to sort out utility bills. Then there's the fun of changing my address with all the different companies and government departments that have my contact details.

But at least now it's off the market, and no one can jump in and outbid me. It still hasn't quite sunk in that this whole ordeal is nearly over. Hopefully. We're moving over the furniture next weekend, so it will probably feel more like home after all that is there. I've met a few of my neighbours, and it seems I'm about half the age of everyone else. No to mention that several residents use this as their second home. We ballin' South of the High Street.

Nearly There

This past monday we exchanged contracts and on Wednesday I paid the down payment. Hopefully that means tomorrow we can get the keys to my new apartment. It's one of those things that still hasn't quite hit me yet. I think because I'm paying money to the bank every month it still doesn't really feel like it's owned by me.

I'll breathe a sigh of relief once this whole ordeal is over!

It Never Rains...

Hoo boy.

After dealing with all of my accountant's "difficulties" for over a month, then chasing up my employer for every single invoice I give them, I'm still dealing with the solicitors regarding the apartment I'm trying to buy. After confronting them in person and making sure they were aware just how much of a toll this whole ordeal has been having on me, it turns out the construction they were waiting to hear the price of, has already happened. Which means we could have already exchanged.

Hopefully it will all be sorted next week.

Unnecessary Roughness

Nobody said it was easy.

But that doesn't make it any less hard. It turns out the seller is getting impatient. As am I. My lawyer/solicitor is taking quite a while, but it seems to be due to the building owners taking their time getting back to him. Then there's the whole hullabaloo about getting all my utilities switched over. This is not a very enjoyable experience. My heart goes out to those folks who move every few years. Masochists.
