Winner

I found out the other day that some I knew from elementary school in Florida has been arrested for a hit and run where he injured someone. To say that this person and I "didn't get on" would be an understatement. He got what he deserved and I got a fantastic feeling of achievement and victory when I realised that twenty years after I met him, I've finally, comprehensively, beaten him at life.

The Church Of Film

It's no secret that I don't go to the movies as much as I used to. I'm just tired of everyone talking throughout the film. Plus it's really awkward and expensive to get to the cinema from where I live. But every time I go, I still get that little rush of excitement that reminds me what I'm there for. That movie magic.

And Jonah Hill got an Oscar nomination! That means for the rest of his life he will be billed as "Academy Award Nominee"! That's crazy!

British Driving

I'm going to finally make a real effort to get a British driver's licence. If I had one from say, Zimbabwae, I could just pay £50 and swap it. But since my license is from America, they treat me like some sort of teenager, and I have to go through the whole process all over again.

Which isn't cheap. It's £50 for a license, £31 to take the theory test and £75 to take the practical test (which you have to pay again if you fail). Lessons (which you have to take due to how difficult the test is) cost about £20 an hour. I'm starting to think it would be cheaper to somehow swap my American one for a Canadian one, and then just trade the Canadian one in here for a British one. Would certainly be easier.

Lightersabers

When I was about 12, I saw a replica of a lightsaber hilt in Techo Comics, Pembroke Lakes Mall. It was really expensive and if I had the money back then, I would have bought it without thinking.

Flash forwards 12 years, and now there's even better replicas with actual detachable lightsaber blades that light up and make noise. Would my younger self appreciate this sort of thing more than I would now? Of course. But that's all the more reason to get it now and think "yeah, this is awesome"! To be the type of grown up I wanted to be when I was that age!

2012

2012 is here. Supposedly, this is the year the world ends. Let's hope armageddon at least has the common decency to wait untill after the new Batman film comes out, eh?

The fireworks show that London put on was outstanding. I'd have to say it was the best fireworkss show I've seen since the one Scott did at Gater Growl back in 2004. Good show, Boris! We knew we could count on you to put together something spectacular!
