Location. Location. location.

I'm glad I'm living in a central location in manhattan. Several times I've been out, and all I have to do to get home is just walk a few blocks. Some people I've talked to have an hour commute to get back home. I know what that's like.

I also like being walking distance to parks and things. Today in Washington Square Park, there were some men playing bowls. Which is odd, becuase I don't think I've ever seen anyone play that outside of family pinics in southern england. So what on earth 3 men in new york were doing playing it, I'll never know.

New York Auto Show

I'm finally out of hte minor leagues of the Miami Auto Show and into the majors with New York's! Cars actually get debuted at this show. So what are my awards for this one?

Frankly, I can't divide them into categories, as I only sat in one car (the Jaguar XF, after standing in line for ages), so I'll just list an overall best of show list:

Nissan GT-R
Mercedes SLR McLaren (even though I saw loads on South Beach)
Jaguar XF
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560

I will say that as a show, it was a bit of a disaster. The convention center was far away for the subway stop, the lines were really long, and inside, it was like the prision scene from 'The Four Feathers'. Get it together new york!

Tape Wins Again!

I've had my curtains hung up with tape since I moved here to the east village. A few people now have told me that it's "not a good look", so i went out this afternoon and bought a curtain rod. I screwed int he left holder thingy, and started on the right. Neither myself, nor my mate next door could get it in with either of our screw drivers (and made four holes in the wall in the process; holes which will no doubt be brought to my attention when I leave).

So I hung it up with tape.

Where Do I Stand?

Bit of a hectic week, this week. I owe the tax man nearly half my savings and I think my toilet might be broken. So really, it's business as usual.

But Hamilton did win today. I realised watching the race, just how much I love F1. At least I know whereever I go in the world, there's bound to be at least one bar that has it on TV.

I also went to an "authentic belgian frites" place for lunch. I felt mean going in there, as I know through vast, vast experience, what proper frites are supposed to taste like. So we're these proper ones? No. Not even close. But I can't really hold it against them, as the two people begind the counter looked like they've never been to Europe in their lives.

The Bells!

This is my first weekend in the east village, and sitting here in my kitchen on sunday morning, I can hear the church bells from down the road. It is a most comforting sound. People knew what they were doing when they invented them hundreds of years ago.

I also bought a beanbag yesterday! I wasnt planning on it, but it was half price, so i thought I'd better get it now, or else it will get really expensive again next week. It's not quite as big as I'd thought, but it's still better than nothing!

Internet Returns

The bloke just came by and set up my blazingly balls-to-the-wall fast internet. I'm back online baby!

I've been eating at Two Brothers pizza every night for over a week now becuase they have $1 slices. And even though I know it's unhealthy and I should see if my cooker still smokes so I can cook real food, the alure of $1 per slice pretty decent pizza in intense. We'll see if I can ignore the desire for much longer!

Shocking Discovery

I'm home at Mum & Dad's for the weekend, and I've just found out something quite distressing.

The old video tapes I made back when we still lived in England (before you were born, you young whippersnapper) have now deteriorated. Which is even more shocking when you realise they were crystal clear 9 years ago. I'm now going to have to back them up on dvds. Good luck with that I hear you say.

Oh and it seems George Costanza lives across the hall from me in my building.
