The last push

I've sent emails to the companies I applied to online to ask how my application is doing. The is the last job hunt here in Britain for a while. If it doesn't bear any fruit, it's back to America. Not at all like I planned, but then again, nothing ever is.

Sorry for the lack of updates, my computer access has been sporatic at best this past week or so. I'm visiting friends and we've been going out most nights and driving around aimlessly during the day. There is a certain pain I have deep down inside that this trip didn't really work out at all like it should have, but then I just tell myself that it's all a learning experience, and that I can always try again a year or so down the line.

Oh yeah, I went into a convenience store yesterday wearing a woman's sun hat, and I don't think anyone even brinked an eye. It's good here!

New places Old Faces

Mum and I went up to visit her friend Jeanette, and we also stopped by and saw their friends Roy and Loraine, and Colin & Rosie. It was really cool to see a part of the country I've never been to before. People sure do have some cool houses up there. Jeanette's flat is so modern and cool, I'd love to live in a place like that. We also stopped off in Watford to pick up my blazer and see how their getting on. of course, they went to Antigua, so they had a kick ass time. And I found out that Burning Flames, 'The' Antiguan band, are going to stop playing. Carnival won't be the same without them.

As for the job front, I think the less said there the better.

The week ahead

Mum comes tomorrow, and since the interview on wednesday has been conveniantly cancelled due to the postion being filled internally, I can travel with her up north to see everyone. But getting in contact with the job centre to tell them I can't make it, that's another story. If I can't get through, well that's their fault. Bunch of tossers in there anyway.

I'm swinging bu Watford tomorrow as well to pick up my blazer and to say high to my of flatmates. They're going to fill me in on what I missed in Antigua. It going to be a week of meeting people and traveling. Just like to the good old days of... every other trip I've ever made to Britain since I left.

Interviews

A real estate agent in town told me I can get a place without a six month contract. Score! In addition, Mum comes next monday, and I have an interview to be some sort of office boy next wednesday. I have to got to the recruiter tomorrow to get debriefed or something, so I hope I get it. In addition, I told the videogame recruiters that I'd be a tester. Testers are the bottom rung of the videogame world. So if magic happens and I get a job as one, do I stay here in Europe and start at the bottom of an industry I want to be in? Or do I go back to the staes and get a further up job, but working for some military company or something? I need to have a think on this one...

Nothing's ever easy is it?

Clare cam up with the idea of looking in the phone book for videogame companies. So I spent the morning phoning every single software developer in the Thames Valley area with no real reuslts. Then, when I try to sign up for jobs at EA, my CV doesn't want to upload. Then when I try to email my demo reel to Bizarre Creations, it doesn't want ot go. However, they're both now off, and I hope to at least hear back. Unlike those job agencies who don't even let you know you didn't get the job. Nice.

Another problem came up. If I get a job (not in video games, just a job), and I need a flat, the shortest rent I can get is six months. How the hell am I gonna get around this one? Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion. Same bat-time, same bat-website. Hopefully...

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone in Holland for such a great time! Special Thanks go out to Rosemarijn for making me a lovely doll. I hope to see everyone again in a few weeks.

On the trip back, a Scottish guy on board started going crazy and swearing at at someone. Everyone else got up to look and see what he was going to do next, but I sat there thinking "Uh oh, this guy better not be planning something!". Luckily, he was just a crazy guy. Clare said he was behind her in the shop and he kept talking to himself. I was a bit shocked that none of the staff tried to stop him.

Interview with the job agency today. I'm hoping it's going to go well.

In the Netherlands!

I'm up here on Uncle Wim's computer! He just brought up a very good point. Why is it called Ït's Raining Hen"?"

It's from the movie Çhicken Run', when the chickens are being catapulted out of a catapualt. One of the rats shouts Ït's raining hen!". I just though it sounded funny!

The tension builds...

The lady that runs the job agency in town knows someone at EA Surrey, and she said they're hiring testers. I applied, before you ask. You gotta start somewhere... I suppose.

I'm off to the Netherlands later this week. I'll try to find a job there too.

Wedding Crashers

I saw Wedding Crashers last night, and if you're reading this, I'm betting you've seen it too, or at least you should have.

I can count on one hand the things I like more than watching Vince Vaughn movies,a nd this was no exception. Although a few things of note. I guess alot of the jokes were American, because I was the onyl person laughing at most of the movie. Also, it was very weird not to see it with my Orlando crew. There were several points, especially when the guest star shows up (oh come on, you knew he was going to be in it!) and I just wanted to go "Yeah it's Will Farrel!!", but I realised that no one would care and they'd al probably lok at me funny. I miss seeing 'Frat Pack' movies with my buddies.

Shout outs to everyone, especially roomies!

Cheap crisps

Big multipacks of Real McCoys are only a pound at the pound shop. Funnily enough.

I have to go to the job centre to take a 'habitual residence test'. Just in case, I've been brushing up on my British trivia, in case they ask something right out of left field. Watch them tell me I'm not entitled to anything while some chap just off the boat from who knows where gets awarded a house and a big bag of money.

I've sent my CV off the some office agencies in town. I've decided to give it a go and work in offices doing boring office things. I hope I can get some kind of job in London, as that's where everything cool is. Nothing against Reading, but it's like watching a 13" tv, when there's a 61" DLP in the next room. Kind of.
