Ruined Plans

We were supposed to go to Xander's wedding last weekend. I haven't seen the family in over two years, and we'd been looking forward to this wedding since last year. But it seems that even though we can travel, we have to each take three different tests, none of which are cheap. Then there's the possibility that the queues at Schiphol might be so long, we wouldn't be able to get the train to Middelburg until some ungodly hour, so we'd planned for the worst case scenario and tried to book a hotel room in Rotterdam. We heard from some people who have travelled lately, who told of absolute chaos at airports. Plus the small but real possibility that we get to the airport, and we'd filled in the wrong form, or something similar.

With the looming cost of the car repair, I regretfully decided we should go to Holland on a later date. This really ate me up inside, and I took the decision quite roughly. Hopefully our governments can make this whole situation easier in the coming months.

Travel

The good news is that the Dutch government is no longer requiring us to quarantine as of the 22nd, so hopefully this means we can go to Xander's wedding next weekend. We'll still need to sort out flights and paperwork, though. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that anything seem to happen when you plan for the opposite.

Meanwhile, this weekend I'm going on a "boys' weekend" to Cornwall. Sadly, it won't be in my car, but with how long it takes to get there, I'm quite glad I'm not the one driving.
