Melbourne

As the Kaiser Chiefs would say: Oh my God I can't believe, I've never been this far away from home!

Yes, this is the furthest south and farthest away from home I've ever been in my life! Melbourne is cool. It's not as fancy as Sydney, but it seems like a more down to earth place. One of the things I love about Australia is how everything sounds like it was named by a committee of five year olds. Places like Ungabinga and Marochungi. And Melbourne's own Batman Street.

Batman Street!!!!

How cool is that! There's a Batman Avenue as well. And a Batman Park and Batman's Hill. Now I just need to find Wayne Manor and Arkham Asylum.

No More Work!

For visa reasons, I had to quit my job on thursday. Oh well! Looks like I've got two and a half weeks a freedom before I leave! We went out for a traditional Aussie bringe drinking session on my last day to mark the occasion. Any excuse really!

On wednesday, I'm going down to Melbourne to see Matt, who used to live on our road in Sway! What are the odds that we would both wind up in Australia! Everyone tells me how great Melbourne is (even the guy on the phone when I called to cancel my electricity), so it should be a blast!

Channel Tunnel

Guess who's going on the Eurostar? Me!

Before we left England, the Channel Tunnel was a pretty big deal, so I thought it would be cool to come home riding it from Paris. I've got a window seat, but for most of the journey, I'm going to be in a tunnel. At least I'll get a good view of the French countryside.

Button's Done It!

A big and hearty congratulations to Jenson Button. After many, many years of trying, you finally made it! Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke! Well done!

You have to go and see the movie 'Moon'! See if it's playing at a theatre near you, and then rush on over! It's seriously one the best movies I've ever seen.

3D Or Not 3D

I saw 'Up' in 3D over the weekend (a very appropriate movie for my situation, if you've seen it). Everyone's been harping on about how great 3D movies are any how they are the future. James Cameron's new movie didn't really look that cool (although that has nothing to do with it being 3D) and although 'Up' was a great movie as all Pixar movies are, I never even noticed the 3D except in one or two moments. So all I wound up with was a mark on my face from the glasses.

But the movie is awesome!

Well That's Embarrassing

You know when daylight savings comes and you wish you had an extra hour in bed. I did this morning, but only because I genuinely didn't know it was daylight savings. Which occurred on saturday. I guess that's the price I pay for not owning a tv. I get to sleep in.

I arrive at work and think "why is everyone here early?". I walk into a meeting and whisper, "did the clocks go back?". Then everyone starts laughing. We so long as I'm not in trouble...

Big Game

The rugby league grand final is this weekend. It's a bit like the Super Bowl, or the FA Cup Final. Except people over here arn't making as big of a deal about it. I wonder if we get a whole new load of commercials and trailers for upcoming movies? One thing that no one else in the world does like America is the fancy graphics before, during, and after the game. They certainly know how to make an impact.

Oh and on a completely random note, the supermarket this morning was playing 'Criminal' by Fiona Apple. That's not a song you usually hear in a shop...
