What the drive from the airport to the hotel reminded me of most, was traveling to Miami in the 80s when I was very young, and everything still seemed so exotic and new.
The hotel was right opposite where they filmed the opening car chase in The Transporter, and I also found the café where the shootout took place in Ronin. All very cool. The city itself is far more laidback then I was expecting. I thought it would be like South Beach, where you can't turn around without seeing a limited edition Lamborghini or a fashion model. It was all very calm and reserved. Probably because most of the tourists were retired people, but still. It beats having a bunch of kids running around ruining all the fun. On my last night there, I got friendly with several girls in a bar who then invited me back to their private villa. At one or two points I actually thought to myself "I'm not sure this is real" which is exactly what you're supposed to be thinking on holiday.
I also thought the Ferrari with the Monaco number plate impressed me far more than it probably should have!
