Hot Water

I didn't have any hot water from monday morning through till friday afternoon. This was very inconvenient, as I like to shower. So I had to have cold showers, which are unpleasent. I did my best to try and be civilized with the landlords, but by friday morning, I'm afraid I was a bit agitated. I tried to keep everything civil, as they could easily make my like more awkward.

Democracy Inaction

For the first time ever I wrote to my local member of national government. I asked why, if we have £18 million to give to Liverpool so they can build a cruise ship terminal, can we not give it to train passengers to offset the upcoming fare increase.

He wrote back with an hour and said that he didn't think anyone should have the money. The next day he even sent me full details on what happened in Liverpool from someone in the Ministry of Transport. At first I thought he should probably have better things to do than answer my dumb emails, but they I realised that as a voter in his constituency, he did the right thing. Despite the fact that I didn't even vote.

Faith Restored

After those riots, I needed something to restore my faith in Britain, and I think that happened this morning.

The trains were late, again, and I asked an elderly couple if they were going to Bournemouth and if they wanted to split a cab. They said they were going that way, but they had a car a few streets over and offered me a lift! Faith. Restored.

London Burning

I suppose you've seen the riots in London and other major English cities. Sadly, the only thing suprising to me about them is that they didn't happen sooner. We all have our thoughts on why they happened, but we now need to look to the future and cleaning up the mess. Hopefully, as Boris Johnson said "we won't be making those funding cuts to the police after all." Let's hope not, Boris. Let's hope not.

Twenty Years

I know I've been going on about it quite alot (I'll try to make this the last time!) but it was exactly 20 years ago this month that we moved from Sway to Miami. That's a long time and the fact that it still seems like yesterday to me is probably one of the reasons I have such a hard time comprehending the fact that people born in the 90s are old enough to walk, talk and drive.

Home Early

Due to working through lunch these past few days, I elected to leave work early today. I sort of feel like I cheated though, so I can't really enjoy it as much as I'd like. Plus, it never feels the same as if you'd had tyhe whole day off just laying around the house and going to the beach. Maybe I should have gone down to Bournemouth beach instead. Oh well. Always next time.
